  • 4-5 okra pods medium-sized
  • 1 cup water
  • salt (optional)
  • pepper


  • Take 4-5 medium-sized okra pods and wash it thoroughly.
  • Cut both ends of the pods, and slice them in half. You can also use a knife and pierce each side of the pods.A person cutting okra on a wooden board

  • Keep the pods soaked in water for 8 hours. Note that you can also keep it soaked in water for 24 hours if you prefer to do so.
  • Next morning, or after 24 hours, release the leftover sap into the water from the okra pods by squeezing it. You can throw the pods away once you do so.
  • Pour the water into a glass and drink the nutrient-rich beverage. You can also season the drink with salt and pepper, should you find it bland.
  • Alternatively, to cut down on the time, boil the okra pods instead of keeping them soaked in water overnight. Once boiled, you can blend the slimy okra pods with water. 2. Punjabi Bhindi Masala:

  • 4tbsp vegetable oil
  • 500g bhindi washed, wiped and chopped
  • 1tsp cumin seeds
  • 1cup finely chopped onions
  • 1cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1tsp grated ginger
  • 1tsp minced garlic
  • 2tsp coriander powder
  • 1tsp turmeric powder
  • one tsp red chilli powder
  • 1tsp dry mango powder
  • Salt to taste


  • Wash the bhindi nicely under running tap water and wipe it nicely to soak all the water.
  • Chop them into small pieces
  • In a pan heat the 1tbsp oil
  • Add the bhindi and fry them until slightly crisp
  • Take the bhindi in a plate
  • Now heat the remaining oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and allow it to crackle.
  • Now add the onion and cook until they turn pinkish in colour.
  • Add ginger and garlic and cook for another couple of minutes.
  • Now add the tomato and cook for 3-4 minutes until they are soft and mushy.
  • Now add the bhindi and turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and cover the lid and cook for 10-12 minutes on low heat.
  • Remove the lid and increase the flame.
  • Add dry mango powder and cook for another minute.
  • Serve hot with chapatti or paratha.
