Waffles are the perfect first finger food for babies – they’re easy to hold, they’re great for struggling teeth, they don’t require much chewing, and they pop right off if your child doesn’t like them! Just cut them in the right size so that your baby can enjoy them as strips or “sandwiches” (6+ months), or as small pieces, strips or whole using their hands (older babies/toddlers).
These waffles are delicious on their own, but babies often enjoy them in “sandwiches”! Cut the waffles into strips, and make sure they’re a little crunchy so your baby will be able to enjoy them.
It won’t take long for your little one to realise that waffles are not just for dinner! Cut them into strips, sticks and even “sandwiches” for a more fun snack that’s also full of nutrition.
Your baby is ready for waffles! Just the right size to be bite-sized, the perfect shapes and sizes, and yummy flavors that are going to make you want them yourself!
Frozen Waffles For Babies
These simple and healthy waffles for babies are made with banana and whole wheat flour. They’re salt-free with no added sugar- a great first food! Light and soft on the inside with just the right amount of crispy-ness! Ideal for 6 month old and up.

My baby Bao is a non-stop eating machine, sometimes it’s a struggle to figure out what to feed him. Fortunately, I’ve got this yummy, healthy waffle recipe that cooks in bulk – key to avoiding burnout when making all of baby’s food. These waffles freeze well, and can be reheated for quick and easy breakfast or snack options. Not only for babies, my 4-year-old loves them too!
These waffles for babies contain eggs, wheat, and cow’s milk, which are common food allergens. It’s a great way to maintain allergenic foods early in baby’s diet to potentially prevent food allergies, per recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics . Before baby tries anything new, make sure to introduce single ingredients every 3-5 days to ensure they’re not allergic.
My first born had eczema at 4 months so food allergies were a big concern for him. If your baby shows any signs of atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, or asthma, please talk to your doctor before introducing new foods.
INGREDIENTS AND RECIPE NOTES
Whole wheat flour – You can get this at your local health food stores like Whole Foods or Sprouts in the bulk foods section. Bob’s Red Mill is also a good brand. If you do not have whole wheat flour, you can substitute it with everyday baking flour (organic and unrefined is a good option.)
Banana – Make sure to use ripe bananas, it adds a bit more sweetness. Use bananas that are soft with brown spots on the peel.
Butter – The butter helps you get that nice, crispy texture. Don’t be concerned about butter, babies need good fats to help with healthy brain development. I use unsalted organic butter.

Waffle Maker – I use an Oster 8-inch round waffle maker. Check your waffle maker for the appropriate settings. I use the medium setting (which heats to approximately 350 degrees Fahrenheit) to preheat and cook. Make smaller waffles by using a ¼ measuring cup to scoop the batter. This batch makes about 7 baby waffles.
To store – Let waffles cool completely and then place it in an airtight container and place in the fridge or freezer. I use my silicone freezer bags. These will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
To reheat- For frozen waffles, I defrost them in a toaster oven for about 3-4 minutes at 350 Fahrenheit.
To serve – Top these with delicious soft fruit like raspberries, bananas, smashed blueberries or avocado for baby-led weaning. They also go great with plain whole milk yogurt.

Waffles are so easy for babies to eat and it may just buy you 1 to 2 minutes of peace and quiet while they gobble them up! For more easy baby food ideas, check out my how to make baby food with your instant pot post.

If you are looking for a naturally sweetened treat to make for your little one, these blueberry banana waffles make the perfect breakfast or snack. Their soft texture makes them great waffles for babies and the bursts of blueberries add the perfect touch of sweetness!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Here is what you’ll need to make these blueberry banana waffles:

- Banana: The main source of sweetness for these waffles. Make sure to use a banana that is very ripe with several brown spots. The riper the banana, the sweeter the waffles!
- Rolled Oats: I love baking with rolled oats as they are packed with nutrition! Gluten-free rolled oats make these waffles gluten-free.
- Eggs: Used as a binder to help hold the waffles together.
- Cinnamon: Provides an extra warm spice and subtle sweetness.
- Vanilla Extract: For a little added flavor to the waffles.
- Oil: I used avocado oil in this recipe, but any mild tasting oil works as well.
- Baking Powder: Leavening agent to help the waffles rise.
- Blueberries: For added bursts of sweetness in every bite!
PROCESS
- Blend all of the ingredients (minus the blueberries) together until smooth.
- Stir in the blueberries until they are combined into the batter.
- Pour a small amount of batter into a waffle maker and cook according to your waffle maker instructions.
- Slice into strips, or serve as is!

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Let the waffles completely cool and store them in an airtight container for up to 2 days in the refrigerator. To freeze, store in a freezer-safe Ziploc bag for up to 2 months. You may toast them to reheat or simply microwave for 20-30 seconds, or until warmed through!

SUBSTITUTIONS
- Eggs: You may substitute the eggs with unsweetened applesauce. Replace each egg with 1/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce. You may also replace the eggs with flax eggs. To make one flax egg, combine 3 tablespoons of water with 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed. Let the mixture sit in the fridge for about 15 minutes until it forms a gel-like texture.
- Oats: You may replace the oat flour with all-purpose flour or whole wheat flour. I used old-fashioned rolled oats in this recipe, but you can also use quick oats, though the amount needed may vary.
- Blueberries: You may replace the blueberries with any other type of berries, or you may omit them altogether! They add a nice burst of sweetness, but taste great without them as well!

RECIPE NOTES
- I use this nutribullet blender to blend the ingredients into a smooth batter.
- Do not overfill your waffle maker with batter. The waffles will rise slightly during cooking and may not cook properly if overfilled.
- These waffles are perfect waffles for babies because of their soft texture. If you prefer a slightly crispier waffle, I would suggest cooking them for a few minutes longer, or toasting the waffles when reheating.
- You may need to spray your waffle iron with a little cooking spray depending on the type of waffle maker you have to prevent sticking. I love using this mini waffle maker or this multi mini waffle maker to small eggo-sized waffles and no spraying is needed!
